Cook tosses complete game as Rockies earn split with Marlins

Baseball Betting Lines

04/24/2010 - Denver, CO (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Aaron Cook tossed his 10th career complete game and Miguel Olivo blasted a three-run homer as the Rockies routed Florida, 8-1, to earn a split of a doubleheader.

Troy Tulowitzki added a two-run double for the Rockies, who lost the opener, 4-1. Ricky Nolasco struck out nine batters in a strong eight-inning performance for Florida in the first game.

In the nightcap, Cook (1-2) allowed just five singles, three from Wes Helms and two to Chris Coghlan. The right-hander had two walks and four strikeouts. He also had a pair of singles and scored twice.

Dexter Fowler had three hits, walked twice and scored a pair of runs for the Rockies.

Florida's only run came in the sixth inning, an RBI groundout off the bat of Jorge Cantu, but his 21-game hitting streak came to a close. Cantu had a hit in 17 games this season heading into the second contest of the twinbill, but was 0-for-4 against Cook.

Nate Robertson (2-1) allowed five hits and five runs over four innings to suffer the loss.

Fowler hit a ground-rule double with one out in the opening inning and then stole third, scoring on the play when catcher John Baker threw the ball into left field. Jason Giambi was hit by a pitch with two down and he chugged home on Melvin Mora's triple.

Giambi doubled and Mora walked in the third to set the stage for Olivo, who blasted his 100th career homer, a shot to center.

Coghlan singled in the sixth and later scored on Cantu's ground ball, but Cook was in complete command, throwing 78 of his 111 pitches for strikes.

Cook singled to start the bottom of the sixth and Fowler had a base hit with one out. Both runners came home on Tulowitzki's hit to left-center.

Coghlan singled with one out in the eighth, but was then picked off. Cook didn't allow a hit after that. Cantu's last chance to extend his streak came in the ninth, but he grounded out to third.

Colorado's other run came in the eighth when Tulowitzki grounded into a double play, scoring Cook, who singled.

Game Notes

Despite the complete game, Cook's ERA stands at 5.01 this season...The Marlins went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position...Marlins reliever Clay Hensley was charged with three hits and two runs over two innings.

Football Betting Lines

The 2009 AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year odds have been released and Denver Broncos' running back Knowshon Moreno has been made the opening favorite.

Bet NFL Sports Lines

Moreno was selected in the first round of April's NFL draft and is expected to carry the rushing load for the Broncos this season. And with Jay Cutler now in Chicago, Moreno might be expected to be Denver's entire offense.

Betting Lines from sports betting lines have made Moreno a 5/2 favorite to win this year's Offensive Rookie of the Year Award. Fellow running back Chris “Beanie” Wells (Arizona Cardinals) is right behind Moreno at 7/2, while Donald Brown (Indianapolis Colts) and receiver Michael Crabtree (San Francisco 49ers) are 5/1 to win. Quarterbacks Mark Sanchez (New York Jets) and Matthew Stafford (Detroit Lions) are 7/1 and 8/1, respectively.

A couple of players who present some value are Josh Freeman, Shonn Green and Darrius Heyward-Bey.

Freeman needs to beat out Byron Leftwich to become the starting quarterback of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but if he does, he has a lot or raw talent and could use the weapons around him (i.e. Kellen Winslow Jr. and Antonio Bryant) to be very successful in his first season.

Green enters a crowded backfield in New York, but considering both Thomas Jones and Leon Washington are unhappy about their contract situations and might holdout, the former Iowa product could become the Jets' primary back.

Everyone was shocked when Al Davis took Heyward-Bey with the eighth overall pick in April's draft, but the kid has a tremendous amount of talent and if quarterback JaMarcus Russell takes the next step this year, the former Maryland product could blossom. Plus, Heyward-Bey will be looking to prove the people wrong who said Oakland should have taken Michael Crabtree with the No. 8 pick.

And if you're looking for a deep sleeper, check out Pat White at 30/1. He enters the Miami Dolphins vaunted “Wild Cat” offense and could be a big time playmaker.
